Department of Fisheries & Oceans Scientist Recognized for Her Contributions to Co-Management in the Inuvialuit Settlement

Fisheries & Oceans scientist, Lois Harwood, was awarded the 2000 Inuvialuit/Canada Fisheries Joint Management Committee Co-Operative Management Award at a special public meeting of the Inuvik Hunters & Trapper Committee on November 21st, 2000.

Lois Harwood was presented this yearís award in recognition of her significant contributions to fisheries co-management in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR) through: her scientific research on fish & marine mammals; her many contributions that have led to important improvements in co-operation between Inuvialuit Hunters & Trappers Committees, Fisheries & Oceans Canada, and Fisheries Joint Management Committee within the ISR; and for her contributions to international co-operation in the management of marine mammals of the Beaufort Sea.

This is the second year that the Fisheries Joint Management Committee has presented their annual Inuvialuit/Canada FJMC Co-Operative Management Award to an individual or group for their significant contributions to fisheries co-management in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region through for a single event or long-term contribution. Last year, Jacob Archie of the Aklavik Hunters & Trappers Committee was recognized for his contributions in 1999.
